Saints of San Lorenzo brings together religious symbolism and cultural hybridity. Inspired by Hindeloopen decorative painting, the work depicts fellow artist Valentina Diamante through gestures traditionally associated with Christ, reinterpreted. The divided background, combining Dutch (Hindeloopen) folk ornamentation with the Roman street culture of the San Lorenzo neighborhood in Rome, reflects the artist’s lived experience between these two worlds and frames the work as a contemporary act of reverence.
